The Beginner's Game by Pafu Has anyone read The Beginner's Game by Pafu? The author claims to have found an opening system that revolutionizes the whole subject of openings. Is there anything to it or is it just hot air? Feedback from anyone who has checked out the book and tested its tenets would be appreciated. michel813 No, and I can not find any mention of Pafu on the July 2003 Fide rating list. Unless someone can give you specifics I would… More: chess online

Creating an Opening Repetoire I have been playing chess for a while now (never as serious as tournaments) and I'm now starting to get alot more serious about it and am trying to come up with an opening repetiore. I used to always use classical king pawn openings. I now use the colle system as white and the dragon sicilian and dutch defenses as black. I don't really think these are exactly the right openings for me. Can anyone give me suggestions… More: backgammon online

Chess Coaching Club? I got the idea of starting this thread because of several things: (1) I recently started coaching a GK player rated about 400 points below me and, while I don't know if it's been worthwhile for her, it has certainly been a positive experience for me so far; (2) I got to thinking that I would surely benefit from having someone coach me for a while; (3) in another thread, a player at around my level asked for a higher rated… More: backgammon online

EVANS GAMBIT!!!!! Does anybody have any analysis for the Evans Gambit? whoa! The evans is a diverse opening--- could you be a little more pointed? pawn sac -- is it justified In the evans, one pawn is given up for tempo gain. May I ask if this sac was justified ? can black, successfully defending, capitalise on this one pawn QS majority to go on to win under normal circumstances ? Thanks. As with many other gambits, it doesn't work well in play chess online…

What is chess? Indeed. In an esoteric way, have you ever pondered why you play?... what is this game for you? Dont describe to me HOW to play, but WHY you play. I've recently starting playing GO, and the 'creativity' that one can get out this game really has made me ask this question to myself. The game of chess has its beauty for me in that it is a tried and tested thematic game that has 'perfect information', there is no chance; you can see play chess online…

Playing a novice What is is the etiquette for playing against a novice? They know how to set up the board (even know which side the king and queen are on), but were you to play them, you can see they lack understanding. So, do you end their miseries as quickly as possible but ruining any self respect they might have or do you politely drag out the game with some deliberate mismoves but with the risk of blundering into a loss thus ruining your own play chess online…

Fischer-Karpov WC Match? Seeing the names come up in the forum ... Just wondering who you think would have won the F vs K match that never took place, if it had been played? Personally, i think RJF would have won handily, if in form. Was he? That's what I wonder. Or if perhaps some illness or lack of support might have intervened to give it to the Russian Chess machine. ? Difficult question Fischer had been inactive for 3 years.
